Occupational Lab is designed for 10th grade students, 15 years of age, who are identified as disadvantaged and having barriers to career and academic success. Placement of a student in this program will be determined by the Guidance Department.
The goal of the program is to provide students with the knowledge and experiences needed to select and pursue a career occupation.
Students will rotate through 3-4 different career-technical programs of their choice. Each program visitation will last 6-9 weeks. Students will be able to experience a "hands-on" look into 3-4 programs offered at the Career Centers. Through this process, it is hoped that each student will find an area of interest and will enroll in that program for their junior and senior years.
It is the intent of the program to foster a strong work ethic and provide a "stepping stone" for students to further pursue their chosen area of interest. Additionally, students will gain the necessary basic skills needed to attain success in the world of work.
