"Shark Tank" Competition at Barnesville High School

Students in the BHCC/Barnesville High School Digital Marketing Management and Introduction to Business courses participated in The Ohio State CIBER/OAC Entrepreneur Export Competition. School districts in the Ohio Appalachian Region competed in an international exporting challenge following the poplar "Shark Tank" format.

The main goal of the competition is to have students in the Ohio Appalachian Coalition learn more about exporting globally. According to the Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), there are a great deal of companies that manufacture locally in Ohio, but then struggle to export globally. The Ohio State University CIBER initiative was started after a meeting, attended by Maureen Grady of OSU, with the Department of Education Secretary Dr. John King, Jr. He wants to see more knowledge and awareness of competing globally out of the OAC region. This competition is one way OSU plans to accomplish this goal.

Mrs. Leslie Skinner, instructor, had seven teams from her classes compete for two spots to advance to the state competition at The Ohio State University on April 20. A panel of six judges were tasked with deciding which teams would move on to the next level.

Finishing in first place was Team "FRESH FLUSH." Pictured, from left, are Uryan Meade, Luke Eddy, Trey Ciroli and Kohl Campbell; Team "STEEM" placed second, which included Brooke Showalter, Gracy Hayslett, Alexis Wade and Mariah Francis.

Winners of the state competition April 20, will receive a one-year book scholarship to the college or university of their choice.
