On-The-Job Training

Students attending the Belmont-Harrison Vocational School District are able to get a "jump" on their careers by participating in the "Early Job Placement" program. By receiving on-the-job training, along with their vocational and technical classroom and lab work at school, students can take advantage of every possible oppurtunity to make the transition from school to employment.

In order to qualify for the program, students must meet attendance and academic requirements established by the school, and have the recommendation of the vocational instructor, supervisor and superintendent.

Senior Agricultural Mechanics student, Brandon Gilmore, has landed a position as a plant operator at Lash Paving. His position involves using automated batching controls to produce asphalt at the Cadiz facility. Gilmore is also responsible for monitoring systems, preventative maintenance of the equipment, welding and general repairs.

Nathan Norris, also an Agricultural Mechanics student, has been gaining valuable experience from Eberhart's Service Center in Cadiz. Norris is employed as a mechanic's helper. His responsibilities include minor automotive and semi-truck repairs, preventative maintenance, tire repair and assisting senior mechanics.

Richard Eberhart, owner of Eberhart's Service Center, was a graduate of the Harrison Career Center before he opened and operated his business for the past 25 years. "Everyone of my employees have come from a vocational school. We really need to support and take advantage of the career opportunities that are provided by the Career Centers."
