Machine Trades Students Help Local Resident

Students at the Belmont Career Center recently solved a dilemma for a local resident. Jack Wright, from Key, needed to repair his 1985 Ford farm tractor. When he began looking for parts, he quickly found out that parts for his tractor were no longer being manufactured. That is when he turned to the Career Center.

Students in the Machine Trades and Welding programs were able to make the parts needed for the repairs. Pictured with Wright are Machine Trades students Roger Lucas, Union Local (left), and Dalton LaCava, Martins Ferry. Instructors are Bob Jackson, Machine Trades, and John Taylor, Welding.

Machine Trades students learn safety and operation of milling machines, drill presses, grinders and lathes. They create machined parts from various materials such as metals and plastics. These machined parts are used directly or indirectly as components to create such items as automobiles, airplanes, appliances, computers and medical equipment.
