Huntington Reality Day Held at HCC

Huntington Bank teamed with the Harrison Career Center to teach students about important financial decisions on Wednesday, April 10.

"My fellow Huntington colleagues and I are proud to support financial literacy education for young adults to help students excel by aligning their economic potential with their career-technical skills and classroom studies," said William C. Shivers, Regional President of Huntington Bank's Canton and Mahoning Valley Regions. "When we began this partnership, we new our 'Reality Days' program would be an ideal fit for Harrison Career Center students as it offers a glimpse into the real workforce, budgeting and smart financial decision making."

Huntington Reality Days is an exciting program that introduces young adults to every day financial decisions. This event partners career exploration, financial education and the hands-on experience of making monthly budgeting decisions during a game of life simulation. The event starts with a lesson on smart money decisions, followed by each student being assigned a job, family status and credit score. Then, they visit booths while using a simulated checking account, pay for utilities, groceries and other expenses. The program concludes with a look into career opportunities found within financial institutions.

"We are happy to establish this partnership with Huntington National Bank and the Harrison Career Center," said Richard Schoene, superintendent of the Belmont-Harrison Vocational School District. "These are skills that will benefit our students throughout their lives."
