HCC Hospitality Program Helps Student With Communication Skills

The Hospitality and Facility Care program at the Harrison Career Center has been able to help a student on the autism spectrum place her very first order at a Wendy's restaurant.

Student, Marci Pickens, has been using an ipad since the beginning of the school year and has shown academic progress and improvement in her communication skills that were never thought possible.

The Hospitality program is designed to identify personal qualities for career advancement. Training is geared toward occupations in the area of hospitality, lodging and facility care. Employment opportunities include hotels, motels, hospitals, adult extended care facilities, institutions, private homes and with agencies providing services to individuals.

Barb Drake, manager of Wendy's in Cadiz, is a supporter of the program and allows students to work at her restaurant on a weekly basis. This gives students a "hands-on" approach under the supervision of instructor Rhonda Glenn and aide Suz Pubal.
